Bader-Mimeur is owned by the Fossier family, whose patriarch Alan recently passed away unexpectedly (RIP). Their holdings include just about all the vineyards surrounding the Château de Chassagne-Montrachet which they have converted to wine since the early 1900s. They produce a collection of wines from vineyards in and around that heralded appellation, with the centerpiece being the five-hectare core estate of Château de Chassagne-Montrachet. Just outside the stone wall of the château and Chassagne designation is their single vineyard Dessous les Mues dedicated to both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir production. The clay and limestone soils in and around Chassagne allow for both varieties, and in combination with a collection of old vines, result in pedigreed, classy, and complex wines. These are excellent Bourgogne values that drink well above their price point, offering big league character at a minor league price.
